Intercultural Dialogue – A Task for Democratic Governance
An overview of the activity of the “Group of Eminent Persons” on the challenges arising from the resurgence of intolerance and discrimination in Europe. Their report assesses the seriousness of the risks, identifies their sources and makes a series of proposals for “living together” in open European societies. Links are provided to the main report and issues arising in connection with it, e.g. Roma rights, migration, intercultural dialogue, fight against racism, terrorism, media freedom, national minorities.

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, ECRI, is a human rights body of the Council of Europe, composed of independent experts, which monitors problems of racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, intolerance and discrimination on grounds such as “race”, national/ethnic origin, colour, citizenship, religion and language (racial discrimination); it prepares reports and issues recommendations to member States. Apart from providing news in the area of human rights, racism, xenophobia and discrimination, the website provides information about the organisation and makes their publications available, too.
